Configuration

Personalize your Bookmark UniSync settings to optimize your sync experience

🚀 Configuration Feature Overview

Configuration features allow you to adjust extension behavior according to personal needs:

  • 🔄 Sync Mode - Choose real-time push or manual sync
  • ⚡ Real-Time Push - Changes are pushed to your other devices as they happen
  • 🛠️ Developer Mode - View detailed upload history records

📍 Feature Location

  1. Click the Bookmark UniSync extension icon in the upper right corner of the browser
  2. Find the "Configuration" option in the main interface
  3. Click to enter the configuration page

📋 Detailed Configuration Options

🔄 Sync Mode Settings

There are exactly two sync modes: manual sync and real-time push. There is no timed or scheduled sync mode — the old "sync every N minutes" setting was removed when real-time push replaced polling, so nothing syncs on a timer in the background.

Which mode is free

Manual sync is free. Real-time push is a paid feature with a free trial, so you can try the "changes sync as they happen" experience before deciding. See the price page for current plans.

Manual Sync Mode

FeatureDescriptionApplicable Scenarios
🎯 Precise ControlManually trigger sync only when neededUnstable network or limited data traffic
💾 Resource SavingReduce unnecessary network requestsMobile devices or low-performance computers
🔒 Data SecurityAvoid accidental syncWhen handling sensitive bookmark data

Real-Time Push Mode

FeatureDescriptionApplicable Scenarios
⚡ Instant DeliveryA bookmark change on one device is pushed to the others immediatelyFrequent switching between multiple devices
🔄 No Manual InterventionNothing to click while both devices are online and signed inDaily bookmark management
📊 Data IntegrityEvery change is recorded as a history versionImportant bookmark data protection
📡 Persistent ConnectionA WebSocket connection stays open with automatic reconnectMulti-device data consistency

⚡ How Real-Time Push Works

🔄 Push Mechanism

Once real-time push is active, the extension keeps a persistent connection to the service:

  • 📡 Persistent Connection - The extension stays connected while the browser is running
  • ⚡ Server Push - When one device uploads a change, the service pushes it to the other online devices
  • 🔄 Auto Reconnect - The connection is re-established automatically after a network drop
  • 📊 Status Visibility - Sync status and progress are shown in the interface

⚠️ When a Device Is Offline

Real-time push only reaches devices that are connected. If a device is closed, offline, or the extension is not running, it is not on the push channel:

StatusBehaviorUser Action
🟢 OnlineChanges arrive as they happenNothing needed
🔴 Offline / browser closedNothing is pulled in the background — there is no timed syncManual sync once the device is back
🔄 ReconnectingThe connection is re-established automaticallyWait; sync manually if it seems stuck
❌ Push FailedAn error is shownCheck the network or trigger a manual sync
What this means in practice
  • Online both sides - you never touch the sync button
  • Device was off for a while - click sync once when you come back; nothing compensates for the gap automatically
  • Poor network - switch to manual sync to avoid failed push attempts

🛠️ Developer Mode

Function Description

Developer mode is mainly used for debugging and monitoring sync behavior:

FunctionRoleTarget Users

Data Security Description

History records in developer mode are only stored locally and will not be uploaded to server, mainly for debugging purposes.

🎉 Configuration Best Practices

📊 Daily Usage Recommendations

  • 🏠 Home/Office Network: Leave real-time push on, so changes sync as they happen
  • 📱 Mobile Devices: Use manual sync to save data traffic
  • 🔄 Multi-device Collaboration: Keep both devices online and signed in
  • 🛠️ Troubleshooting: Temporarily enable developer mode to view detailed records

🔒 Data Security Recommendations

  • 📋 Before Important Changes: Manually sync once to ensure data security
  • 🔄 When Network is Unstable: Switch to manual sync mode
  • 💾 Regular Checks: Enable developer mode to verify sync works normally
  • 📱 When Changing Devices: Confirm configuration settings match original device

Professional Tip

Reasonable configuration of sync settings can significantly improve user experience. Recommend choosing the most suitable configuration scheme according to your network environment and usage habits.
